GOODFELLAS

This is The Goodfellas first year at AROTR and they plan on starting the day by the pool and fill the air with Beatlemania.  They have an eclectic set of Beatles tunes that spans their career. Formed just 3 years ago, Goodfellas quickly pieced together a large array of songs composed by the greatest band of all time and perform throughout the Washington, DC metro area. Their thirst for All Things Beatles is unquenchable! Their beginning was somewhat accidental as it took place on- line........Craigslist of all places! Gary placed an ad to get a rock and roll band together. After a number of phone calls, a few e- mails and a bit of a good vibe, Ray, Mark, Jonny and Frankie joined Gary to jam one afternoon only to find out that every guy in the room was a dyed-in-the-wool Beatles fanatic! Funny how things work out, and it proves once again that you can find anything on the internet!

Retro 70's and 80's Rock and Roll The Steve Sizemore Group sticks to a proven formula of no-frills rock n' roll: good hooks, melodies, rich harmonies, and loud guitars. Never concerned with being the next big thing, they have simply stuck to creating straightforward rock and roll. With 5 original albums to its credit and a host of various artist compilation credits, SSG's last studio album, Beautiful Dust, received critical acclaim and was featured at independent music industry showcases such as International Pop Overthrow and the NAMM Show. Presently the band is working on its 6th original album. As an 8-year veteran of the world's largest Beatles inspired music festival, Abbey Road on the River, SSG is proud to have put its signature on the most celebrated body of work in music history. Joe Carducci, Marketing Manager of Gretsch Guitars, has coined the Steve Sizemore Group "the Beatles on rocket fuel." In 2010, SSG released a live Beatles tribute album called A Night in the Life, and it is available for streaming on the MUSIC page of www.stevesizemoregroup.com. They extended the numbers as one can do on stage, instead of merely trying to imitate the sound on Beatle recordings. Then they covered songs by other Wilburys, including Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.” -  the Examiner.com, Washington, DC – 9/7/10

UNION JACK BRITISH INVASION BAND

Featuring the look and sounds of the 1960’s British Invasion era, UnionJack takes you back to the days of The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Hollies, Searchers and the many others that followed these great groups. Afive-piece band, UnionJack was one of Western Mass’ original “tribute” bands formed in 1979. After years of performing with other bands, UJ’s members reformed in 2002. The current lineup features three original members: Gary Wilkinson of Belchertown, (guitar, vocals), Les Bowler, (South Hadley) (bass, vocals), Dave Lempke, (Holyoke), (drums, vocals), with newcomers Jim Brown (guitar, vocals), (South Hadley), and Jim O’Connor, (Holyoke), (Keyboards).

Wilkinson’s lead vocals on classic Beatles’ tunes have always been the band’s strength, along with some great material and more than a little bit of humor. UnionJack follows the history of the British Invasion from the early days of “Beatlemania” through the end of the decade. In addition to those mentioned above UnionJack also features tunes by the Yardbirds, Badfinger, Dave Clark 5, and many others. The band also performs an “American Graffiti” set, featuring music from “American Artists” popular during the same period; the Monkees, Credence Clearwater Revival, Grass Roots, Rascals, Neil Diamond, and many others. UnionJack has had the pleasure over the years of being the opening act for: Bo Diddley, The Fifth Dimension, The Band, The Commodores, The Wilkinsons, Ritchie Havens, and many others.

The bottom line is that this band is fun to listen to!

50th ANNIVERSARY CONCERT presented by BRITBEAT

There are many milestones and anniversaries when discussing the Beatles. They recorded Love Me Do three times between June 1962 and September 1962 and sometimes that history is even blurred on which drummer performed on which track, but we know this much-the song was released on October 5, 1962 so as we celebrate Abbey Road on the river Washington DC,we are just one month shy of the 50th year anniversary of their first record.

By the time we meet again in Louisville in May, the 50th anniversary of Please Please Me, their first album,  will have passed.

The Beatles recorded 10 of the 14 songs on their debut album in just over 12 hours on February 11, 1963. For productivity alone, it's one of the greatest first albums in rock.  John Lennon finished the epochal all-day session shirtless and shredding what was left of his vocal cords onto takes of Twist and Shout.

Abbey Road on the River favorite BritBeat will please us again as we relive the very earliest days of Beatlemania

JEFFERSON STARSHIP

PAUL KANTNER, along with MARTY BALIN founded JEFFERSON AIRPLANE in 1965. THE AIRPLANE were the biggest rock group in America during the 1960s and the first San Francisco band to sign a major record deal, paving the way for other legends like GRATEFUL DEAD & JANIS JOPLIN. They headlined the original WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL in 1969 and like THE BEATLES with whom they are critically compared, lasted a mere 7 years ... though their influence and impact on rock music continues well into the 21st century. Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965. A pioneer of the psychedelic rock movement, Jefferson Airplane was the first band from the San Francisco scene to achieve mainstream commercial and critical success.
The band performed at the three most famous American rock festivals of the 1960s—Monterey (1967), Woodstock (1969) and Altamont (1969)[—as well as headlining the first Isle of Wight Festival. Their recordings were internationally successful, and they scored two US Top 10 hit singles and a string of Top 20 albums. Their 1967 record Surrealistic Pillow is regarded as one of the key recordings of the so-called Summer of Loveand brought the group international recognition. Two chart hits from the album, "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit", are listed in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".Successor bands to Jefferson Airplane include Jefferson Starship and Starship; spinoffs include Hot Tuna and KBC Band. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. CATHY RICHARDSON is JEFFERSON STARSHIP’s newest member, anchoring the historic ‘role’ made famous by GRACE SLICK. She is an award winning music artist, graphic artist, and clothing designer. Her professional credits include fronting her successful rock band, producing and releasing seven albums on her various indie record labels. She was nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Art Direction of her band's 2003 release, “The Road to Bliss.”

Funny how things work out, and it proves once again that you can find anything on the internet!

The Goodfellas, a Beatles tribute band, is the collaboration of Gary Sykes (rhythm Guitar), Ray Futran (Lead Guitar), Mark Loveland (guitars), Frank Murray, (Bass) and Jonny Rock (Drums).

FAB FOUR-TEEN UNION JACK

The Déja Lou Experience LSB& B

he AROTR Festival can be seen as an American tribute to The Beatles, who were a European band. That’s why we will mainly focus on the so called“West Coast Sound”, with exponents such as: Crosby, Stills & NashThe EaglesThe Doobie BrothersVeniceJackson Browne and James Taylor.   A special highlight within this concept is a compilation of songs by The Beach Boys, the American answer to The Beatles.   Obviously, since this is a Beatles tribute festival and since The Beatles are an important source of inspiration for The LSB Experience, every 50 minute show will contain about 25/30 percent Beatlessongs.   And then we still have some DylanFleetwood Mac , Steeler’s WheelCrowded House and a few of our original compositions to throw in, but al these supplements to the repertoire have in common what we call “The LSB Experience three part harmony trademark”.

HELP and BEATLES FOR SALE Union Jack and The Jukebox

"Beatles for Sale is the fourth studio album by the English rock band The Beatles, released on 4 December 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone Beatles for Sale is the fourth studio album by the English rock band The Beatles, released on 4 December 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone. The album marked a minor turning point in the evolution of the Lennon–McCartney partnership, John Lennon particularly now showing interest in composing songs of a more autobiographical nature. I'm a Loser shows Lennon for the first time coming under the influence of Bob Dylan, whom he met for the first time in New York while on tour, on 28 August 1964. Beatles for Sale did not produce a single for the UK – the non-album tracks I Feel Fine and She's a Woman performed that role. Nevertheless, that coupling was followed up in the United States by Eight Days a Week, which became their seventh number one in March 1965.The album hit the UK number one spot and retained that position for 11 of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top 20. Beatles for Sale did not surface as a regular album in the US until 1987. In its place was Beatles '65 which featured eight songs from Beatles for Sale, plus the A and B-side of I Feel Fine and I'll Be Back from the UK's A Hard Day's Night album. Beatles '65 enjoyed a nine week run at the top of the US charts beginning in January 1965..

Performed by The Jukebox

The Moptops second movie was a swinging London goof, but  the soundtrack included the classics "you've got to hide your love away" and "ticket to ride" as well as the lovely "I've just seen a face". Help didn't break new ground but it paves the way for the Beatles next stop Rubber Soul. The title track help remains one of the very most popular songs ever recorded by the Beatles, and at Abbey Road on the River, one notices that every time it is performed, audiences always stop to listen, dance, and appreciate. In fact, our office uses Help as a barometer of how good a band is when they submit audition tapes. Help and Beatles for sale will be performed together as one concert by Union Jack and Jukebox Saturday afternoon on the Riverview stage.

Day Trippers was founded in June 2010 to do 9 gigs at The International Beatles Week 2010 in Liverpool, 7 of them were in the famous Cavern Club!  During that week we decided to go on as a band.

After Liverpool we’ve done many gigs in The Netherlands. Now we’re in for gigging abroad and we’re gonna play at world’s largest Beatles festival ‘Abbey Road on the River’ August 30 – September 2, 2012 in Washington DC (USA).

We play a selection of songs from the early R&R days (’60-’64) to the experimental studio years (’65-’70). We’re no look-alike band but play Beatles songs in our own way with respect to the original. Close to the recordings or live performances by The Beatles, but always with a slight twist. We try to create an authentic sound that’s Fab Four worthy.

BEATLE JAMS with Cathy Richardson

Seeing Cathy Richardson sing is an experience that is difficult to explain. Critics have described the effect in ways such as: witnessing a space shuttle launch, a force of nature, kinetic, unleashing a tsunami from her iron-lungs, haunting, stunning, breath-taking power, unbelievably powerful, or simply stated, WOW. Some have even gone so far as to dub her the "best female voice in rock today."

And it's no wonder, what other singer out there can you name who has the chops (or the balls, for that matter) to stand in for both Janis Joplin and Grace Slick in their iconic bands?

Yes, it's true, GRAMMY Nominee and four-time DIY Music Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician, producer, actress and designer Cathy Richardson independently released and sold over 30,000 copies of her seven solo albums and relentlessly pummeled the Chicago club circuit for years. Over the last decade, her career has taken a few colorful turns that steered her out of the local scene and into the International spotlight, smack in the middle of the rock n' roll history that inspired her to rock.

Richardson's real life rock n' roll persona led to her discovery for the role of Janis Joplin in the original Off Broadway cast of the show Love, Janiswhere she channeled the late music legend to rave reviews in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Arizona. The San Francisco Chronicle said, "when Richardson pours her magnificent, flexible voice into one of Joplin's signature numbers... the experience is more real than any live recording ever captured." In 2007, she toured the US with Janis' original band members Big Brother and the Holding Co. on the Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Tour.

STEVE SIZEMORE GROUP

The Steve Sizemore Group sticks to a proven formula of no-frills rock n' roll: good hooks, melodies, rich harmonies, and loud guitars. A Night in the Life serves as a great example of Steve Sizemore Group's stage energy. If you want to dance, sweat, and party all night long, this is your band. For the Beatles it was a decisive goodbye to matching suits, world tours and assembly-line record-breaking. /"We were fed up with being Beatles,/" Paul said decades later. /"We were not boys, we were men… Artists rather than performers. As Paul put it the album was "just us doing a good show/". And that is what Abbey Road Live! will present Saturday night at 7 PM. Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come . Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday,Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long.Of all of the Beatles albums, easily the most underrated. Maybe because it followed Sgt. Pepper, maybe because it was not released as an album in the United Kingdom, but an album that contains Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Hello Goodbye, Penny Lane, Fool on the Hill, Baby you're a Rich Man, and All You Need is Love, and Blue Jay Way, as has to be discussed as one of their premier works. As a concert experience it may be. And as an Essentials we think English Channels interpretation is going to make you want to get Magical Mystery Tour high up on your playlist once again.

The Engish Channel is honored to perform The Beatles’ amazing “Magical Mystery Tour” album in its entirety, taking great care to make every song as authentic as possible.

The English Channel (All English, All the Time) performs British hits of the 60's and early 70's...classic rock & pop songs from The Beatles, Stones, Dusty Springfield, The Who, The Hollies, Cream, Petula Clark, Yes, The Zombies, Moody Blues, Lulu, The Yardbirds, & many others. The bottom line is that this band is fun to listen to!

RUBBER SOUL-REVOLVERGlass Onion and The Cryers

In 1965 radios were abuzz with such groundbreaking singles as Satisfaction and Like a Rolling Stone. That December, the Beatles met their peers challenge head-on with Rubber Soul, a stunning collection that preserved the taut pop focus of the bands earlier LPs while introducing newfound sophistication and depth. Producer George Martin described Rubber Soul as the first album to present a new growing Beatles to the world and so it was. The mop tops were evolving in remarkable ways. George called Rubber Soul “the best one we made” because we were suddenly hearing sounds that we weren't able to hear before. John's Nowhere Man which he later acknowledged as a depressed self-portrait and the beautifully reminiscent In My Life both reflect the more serious and personal style of songwriting that Bob Dylan had suddenly made possible.

“I don't see too much difference between Revolver and Rubber Soul”, George once said. "To meet a could be volume 1 and volume 2". Revolver extends the more adventurous aspects of its predecessor; it's introspection, its nascent psychedelia, its fascination with studio artistry into a dramatic statement of generational possibility. The album which was released in August 1966 made it thrillingly clear that what we now think of as ”the sixties” was fully and irreversibly underway part of the album's revolutionary impulse was visual.

On Sunday, The Cryers and Galss Onion brings to life the Rubber Soul and Revolver album in their entirety.

STEVE SIZEMORE GROUP

The Steve Sizemore Group sticks to a proven formula of no-frills rock n' roll: good hooks, melodies, rich harmonies, and loud guitars. A Night in the Life serves as a great example of Steve Sizemore Group's stage energy. If you want to dance, sweat, and party all night long, this is your band. THE DAY TRIPPERS

LSB EXPERIENCE

he AROTR Festival can be seen as an American tribute to The Beatles, who were a European band. Being from Europe, The LSB Experience likes the idea to pay tribute in return to some of the great American singer-songwriters and bands that have had a major impact on contemporary pop- and rockmusic.

ABBEY ROAD ABBEY ROAD LIVE!

”It was a very happy record”, said producer George Martin. I guess it was happy because everybody thought it was going to be the last. Abbey Road, recorded mostly in two months during the summer of 1969, almost never got made at all. That January, the Beatles were on the verge of a breakup, exhausted and angry with one another after the disastrous sessions for the aborted Get Back LP later salvaged as Let It Be. Determined to go out with a sense of recaptured glory, the group reconvened at EMI's Abbey Road studios to make its most polished album: a collection of suburb songs cut with an attention to refined detail then segued together (especially side two) with conceptual force. George proved his long secret worth as a composer with Something and the folk- pop diamond Here Comes the Sun. And John, Paul, and George reputedly sang more three-part harmony hear than any other Beatles album. Let It Be was the group's final release but this album was it's real goodbye.

For the 8th consecutive year Abbey Road LIVE! will rock the music of the Beatles at AROTR LV & DC. Initially a tribute to the monumental "Abbey Road" album, the band has expanded its scope to include more than 100 Beatles tunes, from all eras of the Fab Four's career. The band has presented start-to-finish album performances of masterpieces such as "Abbey Road", "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band".

THE WHITE ALBUM ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

They wrote the songs while on retreat with the Mahareshi Mahesh Yogi in India, taking a break from the celebrity world. As John later said, \"we sat in the mountains eating lousy vegetarian food and writing all these songs\".  They came back more great songs that they could fit on a single LP and competed fiercely during the session. The sessions became so tense that Ringo quit the band in frustration for two weeks. Yet the creative tension resulted in one of the most intense and adventurous Rock albums ever made. And in the history of our event ony one band has been able to re-create it successfully several times. They are All You Need Is Love and all you will ever need from Abbey Road on the River is to see them re-create one of the greatest albums of all time, the White Album.

AROTR Hall Of Fame Band: The vision of these talented musicians from Belleville, Ontario, Canada has always been to put the focus on the music. The Band specializes in the Studio Years from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road. Tipping the hat to great albums like Rubber Soul, Revolver, The White Album, Let It Be and Abbey Road. Insomnia (or sleeplessness) is most often defined by an individual's report of sleeping difficulties. While the term is sometimes used in sleep literature to describe a disorder demonstrated by polysomnographic evidence of disturbed sleep, insomnia is often defined as a positive response to either of two questions: "Do you experience difficulty sleeping?" or "Do you have difficulty falling or staying asleep?" HEY HEY WE'RE THE MONKEES THE BLUE MEANIES

All Star Tribute to the Monkees","Critics of the Monkees observed that they were simply the Pre-Fab four, a made-for-TV knockoff of The Beatles; The Beatles, however, took it in their stride and hosted a party for the Monkees when they visited England. The party occurred during the time when The Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band; as such, the party inspired the line in the Monkees' tune Randy Scouse Git, written by Dolenz, which read, the four kings of EMI are sitting stately on the floor. George Harrison praised their self-produced musical attempts, saying, It's obvious what's happening, there's talent there. They're doing a TV show, it's a difficult chore and I wouldn't be in their shoes for the world.Tork was later one of the musicians on Harrison's Wonderwall Music, playing Paul McCartney's five-string banjo.Nesmith attended the A Day in the Life sessions at Abbey Road Studios; he can be seen in The Beatles' home movies, including one scene where he is conversing with John Lennon. During that time in one of our longer, more reflective, talks I realized that John was not aware of who The Beatles were. Of course he could not be. He was clueless in this regard. He had never seen or experienced them. In the strange paradox of fame, none of The Beatles ever saw The Beatles the way we did. Certainly not the way I did. I loved them beyond my ability to express it. None of them could actually know the force of their own work.

In honor of Davy Jones...a salute to The Monkees Each band member of The Blue Meanies is a Beatles fan and they continue to perform select songs from The Beatles extensive catalog in their shows. It will be a glorious mixture of Beatles, solo, and assorted 60's songs .
